Sustainability & Environment
Amapari with its mission of commitment to social progress is active in the surrounding communities. We are proud to work together with the community to improve this region's development. Sound social responsibility policies aimed at creating jobs and income, and the implementation of self-sustainable social projects are key to MPBA.
Community
Since our inception, we have been active participants in public hearings and community meetings focused on improving our impact on the community and environment. We have emphasized the leading role we have taken in creating jobs, and improving education and health for the surrounding communities, particularly since the education and health initiatives were implemented in 2007. We have also communicated with the media and communities in order to foster better relations and provide a more accessible and transparent understanding of our role in the community.
This year, we are intensifying our campaign to serve the community with over R$ 2 million allocated to various projects. We will be working with the community and local government on projects to improve education, health and leisure. It is also implementing an expansion plan that will create more jobs and ensure a stable future for our involvement in the region.
Environment
In the middle of the world's largest biological reserve, MPBA has been installed in an organized, strategic and intelligent fashion in order to make sure that any possible environmental impacts caused by the mining of ore will be minimal, and it's seeking the best way to treat and control such impacts which are inherent to mining. With water concerns being a active issue in our industry we have established a stringent water monitoring program with daily samples at 40 collection points laid out to cover the entire industrial complex. The company also on a continuous basis reclaims the land used and the plant's nursery production for 2007 was 6,300 seedlings of native and fruit-bearing species of the Amazon region was, for the most part, earmarked to be donated to the communities of Pedra Branca do Amapari and Serra do Navio.
